After the closing of Arnold Print Works in 1942, it became Sprague Electric. Sprague Electric was a major component to the city of North Adams lifestyle. It employed 4,137 workers in a community of 18,000. It was the towns number one highest employer. The plant boomed during World War II and for a long time afterwards, it was in 1985 that sales started to decline and caused the plant to shut down all operations.
